What is the difference between SATTVA and ASHTANGA yoga?
Ashtanga Yoga is a vinyasa system of yoga, vinyasa meaning breathing and movement system in which the breath is synchronized with a progressive series of postures. The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga is called Yoga Chikitsa, or yoga therapy. Breathing and moving together with awareness while performing the posture sequence internally heats the body, facilitating the detoxification, opening, & strengthening of the body, purification of the nervous system, and balancing the functioning of the mind. All Ashtanga yoga lead classes at The Yoga Loft focus on the Primary Series. For those students interested in deepening their self-practice with one on one guidance or exploring beyond 1st series, we recommend the Mysore style classes lead by Catherine Kovacs who is one of very few teachers to complete the 2nd series practice with precision and dedication.
SATTVA yoga is a practice that develops the relationship to the body, breath & mind using diverse sequences of Hatha postures, breathing techniques and meditation. Perfect for those people that want a dynamic physical practice with the depth that meditation can bring. The Sattva classes are taught by Rameen Peyrow, who is renown for his unique posture sequences, which are designed to bring balance & strength within the body. The Sattva classes are designed to liberate you from the expired patterns found in the body & mind that are no longer serving you in the development and progression of your life. This class is designed for ALL LEVELS of practitioner.

If you are a new student, we suggest you don't practice any yoga for the first 3 months of your pregnancy. During this time, the fetus is justing attaching itself securely to the mother and any sudden movement can disturb that process. This would be a great time to try the meditation class. When you are 3-4 months pregnant you can return to yoga class or start a practice then with your Dr.'s permission. At that time, consult your teacher and notify us that you are pregnant so we can show you the appropriate modifications. Ashtanga Intro 1, Mysore class, Sattva classes are best for the pregnant woman once you are through your first trimester.
On wearing perfume & scents to class:
Please refrain from wearing perfume or heavy scents to class. The hot and humid atmosphere in the room intensifies the scent and some people have allergies to scents.
*Remember to turn off pagers and cell phones so the peace of the practice is not disturbed, even in the change rooms*
