TEACHERS : Andrew Misle
I began the exploration of the subtle body at a the age of 9 with the practice of Kung Fu and since a very young age I developed understanding of the breath/mind/body connection. I came from Chile at the age 13 year and because of my language barrier found great refuge in multiple disciplines. At the age of 18 I became a certified Kung Fu teacher by the Wing Chun Athletic association in Hong Kong. I paused my practice and went on to star in sitcoms and have been featured in a number of films. As a singer I toured alongside major acts and recorded 3 albums with my former band, and in university I was a member of the Bears wrestling team.
I've had a blast thus far but the pursuit and achievement of my personal goals came at a price. I found that the pursuit of my ambitions created a combination of stress and spiritual emptiness. I found myself living my dreams without ever being quite present during my quest...something had to change, so I stepped off the stage in search of deeper fulfillment and meaning.
It's hard to tell whether I picked yoga or it picked me, and how I ended up in India studying it remains a mystery, but I do remember falling in love with Yoga after my first Yoga class. I tried my first yoga session with the with the intention to re-enter my martial arts practice but soon recognized that the non-competitive nature of yoga would help better shape the spiritual practice I'd first began search with Kung Fu. The things Yoga stands for both on and off the mat are both humbling and inspirational, I feel incredibly blessed to be embraced by such a caring community.
In the summer of 2011 I completed a 4 month motorcycle Karma Yoga Tour. I began my adventure in Charlottetown (PEI) and journeyed through Canada and USA all the way to Nanaimo (BC) teaching yoga and raising awareness for intestinal diseases and Vinyasa Yoga for Youth (founded by Ryan Leier). For details of this crazy adventure visit www.yogirideforIBDpride.com or on Facebook at “Andy’s Yoga Tour for the Cure”.
Currently I am completing Georg Feuerstein’s Classical Yoga Studies and will be attending the Sattva Teacher training with my beloved teacher Rameen Peyrow in the spring.
I'm grateful to yoga, I'm grateful to the great masters that came before me, I'm especially grateful to my teacher Rameen Peyrow. I also thank my teachers Angela Zawada, Ted Grand and Ryan Leier who continually inspire me to live my practice. I look forward to continuing on this path and passing on whatever jewels I gather along the way.
Namaste
