TEACHERS : Meaghan Parent
I didn’t arrive at yoga easily. I would have, had I listened to my gut from the beginning. I needed to learn “the hard way” and have definitely been my own worst enemy on many occasions. It was my passion for travelling that initially tuned me in: I needed to bring my focus inward…because I could go all over the world, but I had to be happy with the one person I travelled with all the time. I could change jobs, change relationships and yes, change my location. But I was still always with myself! Wherever I turned, there I was! I finally started to understand that I needed to get to know myself and be really comfortable with who I am. I needed stillness to delve inside.
My mom brought me to my first yoga class and I am eternally thankful. I didn’t fall in love at that point, however the seed was planted. I started practicing in 2001, but it wasn’t until I took meditation classes with Rameen in 2003, that I NEEDED yoga. I had always thought yoga was a good workout. In understanding that the purpose of the postures/asanas is to then be able to sit and meditate, I experienced a real revelation. As I needed to create stillness in my life and was starting to practice meditation, practicing the postures was a natural progression.
What I didn’t expect were all the benefits of the physical postures, the breathing/pranayama and the meditation. It has absolutely changed my life.
I have been teaching children of all ages for the past 10 years as a French Immersion, music and physical education teacher. It is my aspiration to empower children by providing them with tools and techniques through yoga to equip them for this beautiful life.
Yoga is the practice of truth. I am so enjoying getting to know my true Self and living closer to my true potential. I am very grateful to have the teachers I’ve had, and the opportunities to share what I am learning with others.
